The Ice House is located on Eat Street in the Whittier neighborhood next to Vertical Endeavors and near the Minneapolis Institute of Art. We spent an evening there with friends on Friday and soaked in the atmosphere… good service, good music and fabulous food! The 2-story restaurant offers American cuisine, drinks & live music all in an industrial setting. We loved the curved booth we were in, probably could have handled six people, the four of us fit nicely and had a great view of the stage and band.
Did I say the food was fabulous?! We had their prix fixe menu with great choices of starter, main course and dessert for $40. We had Garlic Shrimp starter: kimchi pancake, gochujang honey, tomato aïoli; Smoked Chicken Wings – fresno hot sauce, pickled vegetables, ranch.
My choice for main course was The Icehouse Burger: onion confit, triple cream, truffled bordelaise. It was terrific! One of our group let me taste her Lobster Grilled Cheese, also very good and loaded with lobster. That’s what I’ll get next time! Sharlene got Skuna Salmon: soba noodles, avocado mousse, mushroom dashi, spicy peanuts; and their butternut squash soup of the day.
Everything was wonderfully flavorful, with a spicy kick. Great food, great atmosphere… and don’t for get the desserts – wow!
The music was an easy jazz trio with guitar, drums and string bass working well together to add to the ambiance. All in all a great experience and highly recommended. Enjoy!
The Ice House structure was actually an ice storage house and loading docks to the old Cedar Fuel and Ice in days gone by, where over 75,000 tons of Ice was harvested each year. The space still remains true to the original industrial aesthetic and they honor their predecessors of the space by employing a new take on classical food and drink recipes and by keeping the music going.
Parking can be difficult in this busy location… take advantage of their valet parking!
