Sunday’s Site – Best Burgers at The Nook, St. Paul

Burgers are at the heart of America, and nearly every neighborhood seems to have its favorite burger joint… sometimes the smaller the better.

Nook1
The Nook, located near the corner of Hamline and Randolph bordering St. Paul's Highland Park and Macalaster Groveland neighborhoods, is one such neighborhood hole-in-the-wall. Known for its burgers and fries it also has its own version of the Jucy Lucy, the Juicy Nookie… which Barbra Streisand claimed to be the best Juicy Lucy she ever had.

Although The Nook has been there since 1938, it wasn't until after lifelong friends Ted Casper and Mike Runyon bought it in 2000 that it has been earning numerous awards, as you can see from the memorabilia lining its walls.

Nook-menu1 We don't live in the neighborhood, but have tried stopping a number of times only to decide to come back later because of the long wait. We finally scored a table a few weeks ago on a beautiful fall afternoon and were not disappointed. I am a purist at heart and although their menu is filled with creative choices I ordered a classic California burger and fries… deliciously satisfying!
