It's a few months since Money Magazine released their 2010 list of the 100 best places to live in America… time for a reminder that Minnesota always does very well in the rankings. It is an affirmation of what we who live here already know… Minnesota is a good, stable place to live and raise families.
This year 5 Twin Cities suburbs made the top 20 list… Apple Valley, Eagan, Plymouth and Woodbury… with Eden Prairie earning top honors as America's #1 Best Place to Live. Cities are chosen based on a variety of factors including safe streets, good schools, jobs and affordable homes.
We lived in Eden Praire for 11 years and know their excellent schools first hand. Their school system is rather unique in that only grades 1-4 are in neighborhood schools… there are district-wide schools for kindergarten, grades 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12.
Eden Prairie is the home of more than 2,200 businesses including Super Valu, ADC and the Minnesota Vikings… and with an unemployment rate of 5.1% it is nearly 1% below the county rate and more than 4% below the national average.
With 7 lakes, more than 170 miles of trails and 2,250 acres of parkland Eden Prairie provides many opportunities for outdoor recreation… yet another reason why residents rank the quality of life so high.
