Week of July 12, 2010 – local drive-in restaurants
Dari-ette… an East Side St. Paul staple for decades, this Italian-American drive-in is not just your standard fare… don't miss their famous meatball sandwich with homemade red sauce… they even sell the sauce to go by the gallon… 1414 E Minnehaha Ave
Porky's… it's hard to think of Twin Cities drive-ins without thinking of this St. Paul icon on University Avenue since 1953… famous for their batter-dipped onion rings… car enthusiasts of the 50's & 60's line up in the summer…
Minnetonka Drive-In… celebrated its 50th anniversary this year… still makes delicious homemade onion rings like I remember from the Grand Forks A&W in the 60's… on Shoreline Drive in Spring Park in the heart of Lake Minnetonka… feels like a blast to the past
Peppermint Twist… this west metro Delano drive-in is another family owned restaurant which serves homemade food made to order… great shakes, burgers, and more… Teddy Bear Park for the kids… on Hwy 12 west of the river
The Drive-In… since we went to the far reaches of the metro on the west, it only seems fair to do the same on the east… this 1950's Taylors Falls landmark still serves homemade root beer and old-fashioned hand-packed burgers… play mini golf next door… Hwy 95 on the main drag
Galaxy Drive In… new Intergalactic, Retrofuturistic and Pet Friendly Dining Experience at the Galaxy Drive In, the latest incarnation of this iconic neighborhood drive-in corner… more family friendly than ever, with not only a kid menu but a doggie menu as well… free soft serve ice cream cones for your four-legged friends… order a s'more kit and roast your own marshmallows over their fire pit… at the corner of Hwy 7 and Quebec west of Hwy 100 in St. Louis Park

I just found this great website for no fee apartments called http://www.SkipBrokers.com No fee apartments….
One addition to the Minnetonka Drive-In entry:
From the late spring, through the summer, and into the early fall this place turns into a classic car show with all sorts of hot rods, street rods, muscle cars, restorations in various states of completion, and even future classics congregating around the building. It is truly a sight to behold for anyone even remotely interested in cars.
Thanks for the additional info on the Minnetonka Drive-In, Mike… it really is a classic, and classic cars seem to go hand-in-hand with classic drive-in restaurants… one of the best places to show off your ride!
