2025 home design trends

As with anything, beware of jumping into new trends that may not have staying power and look dated in a short time. 2025 may be embracing a “maximalist”, personal aesthetic but don’t overdo it when thinking ahead to selling your home. Beware of trends that may be liked by some but not all. Balance is the key. Express yourself with personal choices while at the same time maintaining broad buyer appeal.

Here are some trends to be watching for in 2025…

Brassy fixtures… are back?

The 1980s and 1990s shiny brass fixtures in kitchens and bathrooms were big… then faded away… then came back… then went away… now back again? The modern look is brushed gold or unlacquered brass mixed alongside other finishes like matte black, chrome or brushed nickel. Bottom line is, gold is back again and appears to be going strong for lighting fixtures, cabinet pulls and faucets. But if you decide to use them, use them as an accent… don’t overdo it… you never know how long it will be before they fade away again.

The photo above shows good use of brassy bathroom fixtures, and also illustrates another 2025 trend… biophilic design.

Biophilic Design… connecting to nature

Try out this trend by adding more plants and greenery, filtering in more natural light, and embracing neutral, earthy color palettes and materials.

Wallpaper… making a huge comeback

Just when you thought you had stripped your last bit of wallpaper, it comes back in style. Houzz predicts that ‘richly patterned wallpaper’ will be a hot trend in 2025… and the photo above illustrates how biophilia also fits in with this trend. Unique, bold-patterned wallpaper adds depth and texture to a room instantly. Proceed carefully… but it can make a home more memorable.

Wood Elements… add wood tones back into interiors with ceiling beams, cabinetry, trim, wall paneling

White kitchens are giving way to natural tones. According to Thumbtack’s 2025 home trends report, 80% of home professionals are identifying natural wood (untreated with paint) as one of the top construction materials for 2025. When paired with modern architecture, a neutral palette and contemporary furniture silhouettes, it feels naturally timeless.

Hidden Storage… appeals to buyers who value organization and functionality

Buyers are more and more interested in practical storage ideas… in the kitchen, laundry, mudrooms, potentially cluttered and messy parts of the home. Focus on creating flexible, well-designed storage solutions that work for a variety of situations.

Calming Outdoor Retreats… projects geared to creating calming spaces

This trend is amazing for resale, and several 2025 home trends report an increase in online searches for ‘calming and peaceful vibes’ for homes inside and out. Outdoor projects include garden spaces, serene color palettes, comfy seating and features like ponds or fountains. Keep maintenance in mind, using native plants and the natural arc of sunlight throughout the day.
