It felt somewhat surreal walking the skyways and streets downtown today, a year after hosting the Super Bowl when the streets and skyways were filled with both visitors and an army of local volunteers. The city was quiet today, but we made a good impression last year, and Minneapolis has quickly become second to none in hosting major sporting events.
From Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal…
Minneapolis-St. Paul will enter 2019 as one of the most successful markets in the nation in landing major sports events. And local officials say they’re just getting started. Â
The Star Tribune reports on the metro’s biggest wins yet for big-ticket sports events: Super Bowl LII, of course, and the NCAA Final Four this spring. The Women’s Final Four is coming in 2022.
That alone puts the Twin Cities among only five markets to host the Super Bowl, men’s Final Four and women’s Final Four (the others are Atlanta, Dallas, Indianapolis and New Orleans). When the All-Star Game is included in the mix, it’s just us and Atlanta; add in events like the X Games and WNBA All-Star Game, and it’s just us.
The Twin Cities is a wonderful community which embraces both sports and the arts… the best of both worlds.
