Minnesota is named the ‘Land of Lakes’ for good reason… Minnesota has 90,000 miles of shoreline, more than California, Florida and Hawaii combined!  Tons of Minnesotans headed to northern lake country this weekend to celebrate the official beginning of the summer season, but you don’t have to go far to find a lake in Minnesota, even in the city!
Lake Calhoun (soon to be Bde Maka Ska) is the largest of the Minneapolis city lakes and people were out enjoying it this Memorial Day weekend… walking, biking, sailing… Minneapolis isn’t ranked as the fittest city with the best park system and best city for biking for nothing! We have also been called the least stressful state in which to live… what better way to melt away stress than relaxing by the lake.
But we are also known for our food scene, and even casual pickup restaurants like Tin Fish on Lake Calhoun serve great food. I had a shrimp taco on Saturday that was fabulous… much bigger than you might expect, loaded with big shrimp, very flavorful, and only $6! I am always on the lookout for onion rings to rival the amazing ones I grew up with at the A & W Drive-In in Grand Forks, ND and Tin Fish comes close. The onions are big and crunchy and the breading light, flavorful and crispy. My husband prefers more breading and less onion… but for me these are delicious… check them out for yourself as you enjoy lake and people watching!
With the northeast corner of Lake Calhoun buzzing it is time to bring the family and rent bikes, canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, paddle boards. Summer has arrived… come and play!
