According to a recent study by Consumer Affairs, a research and internet platform based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Minnesota was ranked number 4 of the top states to move to. They measured factors such as affordability, economy, education and health, quality of life and safety in making their assessment.
The study praised Minnesota’s low unemployment rate, which is the seventh lowest in the country, and its low poverty rates. They also noted that Minnesota’s investment in infrastructure means Minnesota has the highest quality roads of any state in the US. Overall, Minnesota finished the study with the eighth-highest economy score.
Minnesota’s score in other categories were: education and health (#3), affordability (#12), quality of life (#13) and safety (#27). Each category was weighed equally.
The top three best states before Minnesota were: Utah, New Hampshire and Idaho.
The three worst states to move to, according to Consumer Affairs, were California, New Mexico and Texas.
Best and worst rankings of all states
While migration has been sluggish the last 20 years or so, people moving here recently picked up, and 42% of the state’s population growth in 2023 was due to migration. It is interesting to note that Minnesota became the first state Legislature to codify abortion protections into law In January 2023.
