When we decided to go to Samarkand, a new restaurant suggested by a friend of a friend — WOW! — we were delightfully surrounded by Uzbeks and their Samarkand, Uzbekistan culture. We arrived just before a surprise birthday party started and got to witness some of their traditional foods, customs, and live music. It was so interesting that a full row of table settings (maybe 25) all had Coca Cola bottles at every table setting!
The restaurant’s menu and foods were great! For us less globally traveled folks the staff helped us a lot with good guidance on the foods… all delicious. We’d go back in a heartbeat! Samarkand is located in the strip mall that shares the parking lot with Willow Creek movie theaters… on the back side, where we didn’t even realize there were more businesses… at 16 Nathan Lane North, Plymouth, MN 55441.
Just a note about the city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan on the map, very near the middle of the Silk Road, the ancient trade route linking China to the Mediterranean. For centuries Samarkand’s location on the Silk Road allowed its people to meet with many travelers, exchanging not only material goods but also skills, customs, languages, and ideas. In this way, over time, many Silk Road cities attracted scholars, teachers, theologians, and philosophers, and thus became great centers for intellectual and cultural exchange.
The city of Samarkand was established many centuries ago and has long been a central point for trade across the region. It is known for its mosques an mausoleums, and was a significant city renowned for its craft production, with a beautiful citadel and strong fortifications. The photos of Samarkand the city in Samarkand the restaurant are impressive!
