I know that spring has really arrived when fresh rhubarb ice cream is available at Pumphouse Creamery! With their farm-to-frozen concept I know they are getting their rhubarb fresh from local ground, and making rhubarb ice cream with pure, natural, organic ingredients… why I keep coming back again and again and again.
Their rhubarb ice cream is what keeps me making detours to stop while it is available in the narrow window of about 2 months every spring. Evidently others also feel the same way, because they say…
Fresh Rhubarb. Hands down our best selling ice cream. Not sure if it’s because it is one of the first local yum yum’s that we get out of the ground in spring or if it’s because of the pure Madagascar vanilla extract we use.
When we stopped at Pumphouse Creamery with my cousin on the way to the airport to take her back to St. Louis she said she had never tasted ice cream anything like it before… she wants to make Pumphouse a destination stop the next time she is here!
With 20 rotating flavors, both dairy and non-dairy, she may not find the flavor she first experienced again but she is guaranteed to find a flavor to love.
I happen to love nuts in my ice cream, and I love that Pumphouse Creamery consistently has some ‘nutty’ selections. It’s really hard to find at other handmade ice cream shops in the Twin Cities, although we are blessed with many outstanding ones.
Their cones are another thing that keep me coming back… made from scratch waffle cones using locally milled organic heirloom flour, cane sugar, local butter, eggs, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds and millet.
No wonder Food & Wine named Pumphouse Creamery one of the top 25 ice cream spots in the nation! In fairness, Izzy’s was next in line on their list but Pumphouse, located at the awesome Minneapolis 48th and Chicago neighborhood hub, remains my top ‘destination’ handmade ice cream shop… and while I am there I can also stop at Turtle Bread and Pizza Biga!
