Sunday afternoon I’m heading to the Landmark Center in St Paul on a warm January day. Going to see our grandson sing with the Minnesota Boychoir. So . .
So, on Sunday I’m a bit late anyway, but I get to the Center and NO parking to be found! I finally found a ramp to park in west and north of the Center. After a six block walk (nice day remember) I arrive at one of my favorite public spaces, the Landmark Center. I know lots of things are beautiful, besides my wife, but this old Federal Building and Post Office is spectacular!
Thankfully I didn’t miss much of the concert. The sound in this space was remarkable, similar to many cathedral churches I’ve visited over the years. Just enough reverb and clarity to make this music special. Choir director Mark Johnson really brings out the young voices into something special.
Several of the songs had a Christmas theme, but a nice range of ethnic traditions and styles really brought out the voice of our metropolitan community. The filled auditorium audience was blessed.
I’ve included pictures of a couple of the historical displays, but you should come and see them in person.
Additionally, there is a nice skating pond outside the building. It’s a grand community experience, you don’t have to skate to enjoy the people. Wall huggers and figure skaters all share the same space. Come and experience this special community.
