Well, my friend said we should meet at a fairly new Indian restaurant in Minnetonka/Hopkins… Nawabi Hyderabad House Biryani Place. And Wow, for me, a wonderful culture shock.
When I enter this wonderland I find, a restaurant with a menu I can’t pronounce or spell! But an authentic Indian experience. My friend who visits India often made it a truly exotic adventure. But, despite my Midwest tastes I enjoyed my meal last week. Most things were very tasty, but watch out for some of the “hot” entrees. I like hot food, but one entre I could not eat – hot! Sorry, I can’t tell you the name (reference above).
We went for the lunch smorgasbord (I’m sure there is an Indian word that works better than that); the foods were labeled with Indian names which adds to the authenticity, but it helps to ask the wait staff, they were more than helpful, very courteous and welcoming!
There is a bike trail that is very close. It sits next to a Lunds/Byerly’s Store. From the Hyderabad there is a nice view of the woodland surrounding the Trail.
Words I learned:
- Hyderabad is the capital of southern India’s Telangana state. A major center for the technology industry, it’s home to many upscale restaurants and shops.
- Biryani a dish containing spicy colored rice mixed with meat, fish, or vegetables
- Tandoori chicken is chicken dish prepared by roasting chicken marinated in yoghurt and spices in a tandoor, a cylindrical clay oven.
From their online website they say…
“There are various forms of Nawabi Hyderabadi Biryani. One such Biryani is the kachay gosht ki biryani or the dum biryani, where the mutton is marinated and cooked along with the rice. It is left on slow fire or dum for a fragrant and aromatic flavor.”
. . . . NOW you understand the authentic nature of this restaurant. It is wonderful.
On Saturday and Sunday most of their entrees are served on banana plant leaves. Very authentic!
Please, discover the richness of the Indian culture with a visit to Nawabi Hyderabad House Biryani Place, especially on the weekends!
