Minnesota is the third best state in which to grow old, according to 24/7 Wall Street. They cite statistics that only 7.2% of people over age 65 are below the poverty rate (7th lowest in the nation) and life expectancy at birth in the 2nd highest in the nation, at 80.9 years. There also is a high concentration of hospitals across the state, approximately 16 hospitals for every 100,000 elderly Minnesota residents, well above the nationwide average of 10.
According to US News and World Report, Minnesota is the 2nd best state in the nation, and ranks 7th in the nation for health care.

Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but it is also known as the choral state… and choral opportunities are abundant. Music is a voice for all generations, and the Giving Voice Chorus for people with Alzheimer’s and their care partners is a vibrant example of the power of singing together in community.
Their extraordinary concert yesterday at the Ordway Center for Performing Arts was a premiere performance of music celebrating the stories of people with Alzheimer’s and their care partners. The music and lyrics by Victor Zupanc and Louisa Castner were the result of an 18-month residency collaboration between the American Composers Forum, Giving Voice and MacPhail Center for Music.
This amazing concert clearly demonstrated the power of music in community… and why Minnesota is one of the best states in which to grow old!
