Weather is a prominent character in life in Minnesota, and this latest never-ending storm is a prime example… more like January or February than April, but April snowstorms are not unheard of. The prior record was 13.6 inches on April 14, 1983. The last I heard 15.5 inches was recorded in NE Minneapolis so far and it is still snowing… a new record!
This ode to never-ending winter by John Joachim of Taylors Falls, published yesterday by the Star Tribune, struck a chord with me and made me smile…

As much as I am weary of the snow and cold in April I nevertheless confess to loving cozying up inside and watching the snow pile up higher and higher.
This record-breaking storm makes the “Weather Permitting” exhibit at the Minnesota History Center even more timely… think I will check it out (not today, they are closed because of weather)!
Lest we become boastful that we are unique in this storm, the stylized map below shows just how expansive this weather system is… big enough for The Weather Channel to name it Winter Storm Xanto…Â I didn’t know blizzards had names before!
