Closet Doors

I was working with Clients this week who just bought a Condo in Edina.  They have some great ideas to freshen up the look of the home.  One thing they are going to do is remove the closet doors in the Master Bedroom.  Right now, there are 2 – 8 foot closets in the hallway to the bathroom.  The woodwork is a dark brown and it feels confining and a little dated.  What they want to do is remove the closet doors entirely and then install some closet organizers.  This is going to look fabulous!  It will serve so many purposes, the first one being the dark feel in the smaller space.  Suddenly, when the doors are gone, the hallway is no longer 3 feet wide, but will look and feel like 7 feet wide!  Plus, it will be light and bright in there.  One thought I had was to paint the open closet area a different color to really make it stand out and be fun…..I'm hoping they'll try this.

Then, there are so many times that there are too many doors in an area, which makes it difficult to utilize the storage space.

In so many homes, you see this:

When you could see this:

So, I'm going to suggest she remove the master bathroom closet door as well.

You shouldn't remove the doors in every area of the home.  For example, I like a closed door in an entry closet.  But, you can remove them from some bedrooms/bathrooms and it can look great.  Problem is…..now you have to keep the closet clean and neat!!
