Tub Surrounds

I've seen a lot of bathtub surrounds that are in pretty rough shape and it's important that the bathroom looks good when you go to sell.  If you are selling and want to update that area, there are several ways you can go.

Fiberglass:  This is probably the most reasonably priced option. It's made of glass fibers set in to a hard plastic resin.  There are some tile looks for this product but ultimately, it still looks and feels like hard plastic.  I have seen some warranty issues with fiberglass, but it is a quick way to clean up a tub surround area.

Tile:  Tile is a great option for a surround.  The options of colors and patterns are endless.  You can do it yourself, but you need the proper cutting tools to do it right.  You also need to grout properly between the tiles and seal it when you're finished.  But, you can end up with a beautiful wall for a reasonable price.  For resale value, a tile surround is better than the fiberglass option.

Culture Marble:  Cultured marble is a plastic resin that is very hard and is made to look like marble. This is a beautiful product when installed and usually takes a professional to do so.  It's very heavy and can break and shatter like glass if dropped or hit with great pressure. Because it is a man-made material, it can be shaped and molded into a variety of different designs. Cultured marble is a more expensive option, but will be worth the investment.

Granite:  This tub surround is probably the most expensive, but it is  beautiful look.  Usually the sheets of granite that are installed are 1 cm thick.  One of the best features is that it often can be installed right over an existing wall of tile.  The edges are manufactured to be able to fit over the tile an granite and you really cannot tell that there is an extra layer of product under the granite.   The look is really impressive.

Whatever product you pick, it will certainly improve the beauty of your bath and home.
