One of the newest street markets in the Twin Cities, the Uptown Market is not so much a farmers market as a showcase of all things local… reflecting the wonderful creative diversity of its Uptown location.
Open every Sunday 11-5 on 29th Street South between Dupont and Lyndale, right next to the Midtown Greenway, its vendors include fine arts, crafts, jewelry and prepared foods in addition to local produce and flowers.
When I parked my car to visit the market last Sunday I knew I was in the right place as I saw people walking down Lyndale with fresh vegetables and flowers peeking out of their bags. Then, as I stepped onto 29th Street I was welcomed by an array of wonderful freshly prepared food stops and a variety of arts and crafts vendors in addition to fresh produce.
Next week the huge Uptown Art Fair which brings more than 400 artists and performers and close to 400,000 visitors to every year will be just a few blocks away. That happens only once a year. The Uptown Market brings together a creative mix of artisans and food vendors every weekend through September on a more intimate, neighborhood scale… enhancing the local community.
