What a Couple of Weeks!

We've had a roller coaster of emotions the last 2 weeks.

The Star Tribune reported an accident that took the lives of two people on their way to visit a relative in Hugo last week.  The Driver was the Sister of a very close friend of ours.

Then we received a call that another friend was diagnosed with prostrate cancer.  He's having surgery next week.  While we know that this is the type of cancer that's treatable, it's a shock none the less.

And last, another friend has been diagnosed with cancer for the third time.  It's in her bones this time and she starts heavy chemo next week, with stem cell treatment at Mayo after.

Wow…it felt like a freight train hit!!  These are not casual acquaintances.  These are all close friends we've known for over 30 years.  All of them wonderful caring people who don't deserve to go through any of it.

"They" say, things happen in threes.  Maybe it's true, I'm thinking.  And I'm praying that this is the end of bad news.

In the middle of all of it, we receive paperwork to fill out for my Brother and Sister-In-Law.  They've been together for about 18 years, married for 8.  They've tried to have children, but she's battled rheumatoid arthritis her entire life.  She was in a wheelchair because of the disease until she was 13 or so.

So, after a lot of testing etc., they can't have children, and have decided to adopt.  They're happy to begin another part of their lives by deciding this was right thing for them and their future child.

We've been selected as references.  As I went to fill out the paperwork, I was amazed at the questions being asked.  So many, I was a little overwhelmed.  We received it about a week ago and I told my Husband that I was going to have to wait until the weekend to work on it.  Appeared to be hours worth!  We were happy to do it, but I needed to make sure to devote the time needed to do a good job and be a good reference.  They've wanted children for such a long time.

Then we got a call last Sunday.  Our Sister-In-Law had been rushed to the hospital in Fargo where they live.  She felt really ill and tests were being run.  Given our last few weeks of bad news, we were prepared for the worst.

Imagine our surprise, when we received a call that, against all odds, she's pregnant!!!  No one can believe it, especially them!!!  What a miracle in the middle of such a trying time for us.

So, we all need to say a special prayer that all remains well in their 9 month journey.  She saw the Doctor today and is about 9 weeks along.

So maybe "things happen in threes"…..but after this news, I have faith that good things can happen too.
