Minnehaha Creek Preserve… and public art at the Louisiana Bridge

Looking for interesting places to walk? Check out the Minnehaha Creek Preserve west of Methodist Hospital. You can pick up the boardwalk at the Blue parking ramp at the hospital… and continue on to the Louisiana Avenue Bridge and beyond to the Minnehaha Creek watershed boardwalk which I wrote about in 2015 when it was completed.

The Louisiana Avenue Bridge is home to the collaborative public artwork, PERENNIAL FLOW, by artists: Gita Ghei, Lori Greene, and Randy Walker.

“The artwork speaks to uplifting transformation and movement, infinite cycle and renewal. It references the reaching across from past to present, from seed to life, and the movement of a butterfly.” I love the circular mosaics under the bridge inspired by seeds… the steel grasses on top of the bridge lifting up to the sky in multiple colors to reflect the changing seasons… and the bronze butterfly in the middle of the bridge engraved with the message “Thee who kisses the joy as it flies, shall live in eternity’s sunrise.”

The boardwalk completed in 2015 continues on the other side of the bridge…

…and works its way back to Methodist Hospital for a total round trip of about 2 miles.

It even includes a canoe landing.
