Minnehaha Creek and its awesome parkway between connecting the Mississippi River, Minnehaha Falls and Lake Harriet is well known in south Minneapolis.
What many people don’t know is the creek continues all the way to Lake Minnetonka.
St. Louis Park recently marked the grand opening of 1 1/2 miles of boardwalk and paved trail at the Minnehaha Creek Preserve between Meadowbrook Road and Louisiana, with more boardwalk trails across the street at Methodist Hospital. This opens nearly 40 acres surrounding a previously straightened creek channel that was restored into a series of curves designed to provide wildlife habitat, improve water quality and provide an outdoor education area.
Nestled in an industrial park across the street from Meadowbrook Golf Course along Excelsior Boulevard, you won’t likely find it unless you are looking for it. Access is at Creekside Park, 7341 Oxford Street, which also has a canoe landing. It is accessible by turning onto Oxford Street from Louisiana Avenue by Methodist Hospital or turning onto Meadowbrook Road from Excelsior Boulevard by Meadowbrook Golf Course.
