1. “Before there was Mad Men, Design Within Reach, or Dwell there was Docomomo“… an international non-profit organization dedicated to the documentation and conservation of buildings, sites and neighborhoods of the modern movement. Membership helps support the documentation and education of the Modern Era of architecture, broadly defined in the United States as the period from 1930 through the 1970s. The architecture produced during this period took on many forms and represented a range of complex ideology. Mid-Century Modern is just one of the Styles of Modernism.
2. Our local Docomomo chapter hosts events and opportunities to get inside local examples of modernist architecture throughout the year… such as the recent open house at architect George Mastny’s own house and modernist churches in Long Lake pictured above.
In addition to their fall annual Tour Day pictured below, they hosted many wonderful events in 2023.
3. Docomomo US MN Minnesota Modern Registry… documents a wide array of buildings, sites, and neighborhoods of the modern movement in the state of Minnesota and other locations nearby.
