Wednesdays Unplugged – Broccoli Grape Salad

It’s not what we have in our life, but who we have in our life that counts.” – J. M. Laurence

NOTE: I spend my Wednesdays Unplugged from appointments. It’s my day to stay home, enjoy cooking and welcome our kids and grandkids for dinner in the evening. We end our meal with quotes from the Norwegian ‘Quote Cup’ passed on to me from my grandmother. I share a quote and a recipe here each week, along with an update and photos of what has been going on in our lives. I love trying new recipes…and love getting recipes you would like to share!

It has been time for year-end band and orchestra concerts. Our grandson is a junior playing percussion at Roseville Area High School… he is now as tall (or maybe taller) than his grandfather. Our granddaughter is finishing 8th grade, her last year at Parkview Center School. She is playing viola like her mother… love her glowing hair!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

I originally published this recipe June 4, 2008… that’s 15 years ago!! It is still one of my favorite broccoli salad recipes.

BROCCOLI GRAPE SALAD

  • 2 big broccoli crowns, split into small ‘trees’ (as our kids call them)
  • 1 bunch green onions, sliced
  • 2-3 cups halved red grapes
  • 2 packets microwave ready bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled

DRESSING

  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sugar (scant)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vinegar

Mix ingredients and toss with dressing (may not need all the dressing). Chill and serve.
