Having an idea of where you will go next can be key to getting ready to sell

Selling your home without knowing what is next can be very unsettling, stopping the process before it ever gets started.

Plans to sell and move often start with a conversation, not knowing exactly when or where you will be moving… just a feeling that the time is coming and it is time to start thinking and talking about it.

I spent today… a dreary, rainy day… with a couple who is going through that process. I first met with them last year and our first topic of discussion was what they should do to get their current home ready to sell. The answer was… nothing! They had already downsized what they didn’t need and their home was in move-in condition.

They thought they wanted to move to a condo for one-level living, but wanted to be able to have the option to have a dog. I set up a search for them of condos that allowed dogs… and they quickly learned that dog-friendly condos are mostly newer and at price points higher than they wanted to spend. So… they decided to retire the dog-friendly requirement.

As is often the case, one of the sellers was more ready to move than the other, which requires patience and respect for both parties. They contacted me this week to do a preliminary tour of three different condo buildings in three different locations… one in Golden Valley, one by Lake Calhoun and one downtown between Nicollet Mall and Loring Park, along the Loring Greenway.

They ended up liking things about all three. The condo units themselves were all livable. But it helped them discern that living downtown, near their church and within a walkable neighborhood had a lot of appeal. They also determined that the community and amenities of the complex were important to them.

They haven’t made up their mind about when or where yet, but they are a step closer to the day they will buy a condo and make a move.

Are you thinking about making a move… but feeling stuck? Sometimes putting reality to some possibilities of what comes next by taking a tour can really help. If that sounds like a good next step to you, contact me… we can make it happen!
