Summer of Sparky… find all 21 Sparky the Sea Lion sculptures!

In celebration of the return of the beloved Sparky the Sea Lion shows at the new Como Harbor in Como Zoo, 21 hand-painted Sparky the Sea Lion statues have been placed throughout the Twin Cities. In addition to celebrating the return of Sparky, the goal of the project is to bring awareness to sea conservation and each statue focuses on a different conservation message.

We had fun going on a Sparky scavenger hunt last weekend and visited 10 of the 21 Sparky statues throughout the metro. There are two in Minneapolis, one at RBC Gateway in the Plaza by the Four Seasons hotel, and at Minnehaha Falls by the steps that go over the falls. The rest are scattered throughout St. Paul, with clusters downtown and at Como Park/Zoo/Conservatory. We saw what looked like a family group seeking them out and reading about each one while we were out… makes a good family quest!

Summer of Sparky statues are located at interesting places to stop so it could take several days to find them all if you explore each location, but do plan to stop and see a Sparky show at the zoo as part of your outing… just remember that although there is no charge, you must reserve a time slot so they can control the number of visitors at one time.

Click on the map below for an online interactive map John created to help you find them all! SUMMER OF SPARKY MAP
