We love walking city streets and decided to park blocks away from Hen House Eatery in downtown Minneapolis so we could walk and wander on our way to brunch over Memorial Day weekend. The restaurant was much more crowded than expected so we spent more time walking than eating and the rockman statues in the plaza in front of the US Courthouse made me smile… they reminded me of minions.
There is more going on in the plaza than the glacial-inspired drumlins that dot the landscape designed by Martha Schwartz. Driving by the plaza it may look odd seeing the mounds of grass, but spending time in the plaza made me smile. The rockman statues by Tom Otterness give it a whimsical quality that make it hard not to smile as you discover ‘minions’ scattered throughout plaza, wondering what you are going to find around the next mound.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that the tall sculpture is just a pile of rocks… minions are to be found throughout, begging the question are all the rocks more rockmen hidden in plain view?
If you go to the Federal Courthouse Plaza, plan to spend some time smiling at all the rockmen you discover…
…even the grounds keepers are rockmen.
