This neighborhood haunt for wood-fired pizza and a rotating MN Beer list from as many breweries as they can get got a shout-out in the StarTribune recently, and husband John placed an order for me to pick up at Fire & Nice Alehouse on my way home from showing homes last weekend. We love fire-roasted pizzas, but takeout is hard to keep warm when you must travel 20-30 minutes to get home. We were sold when we read about their brilliant idea to offer par-baked pizza takeout to finish at home… an inspired idea for the Covid era!
Fire & Nice has very inventive fire-roasted pizzas named after famous Minnesotans, and you can also create your own. We had a pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms pizza and garlic cheese bread, which had full tender roasted garlic cloves. I admired the pizza chef who was evidently having a bad day and remade the pizza more than once… but was very gracious and apologetic, offered me a beer, saying he wouldn’t send the pizza home with me until he got it right!
I was impressed with how seriously he took providing the best… in keeping with their goals described below from their website.
Our goal is passing on the quality we’ve learned along our journeys in kitchens and breweries by dishing out some award-winning pizza and the best beer that MN breweries have to offer.
We are specializing in a living, rotating MN beer list of all styles from as many MN breweries as we can get. We’re also continuously testing ideas in the kitchen to bring you new items with fresh, seasonal, ingredients and delicious innovation.
Fire & Nice Alehouse has a great neighborhood feel, complete with a supply of games for just hanging out. There are now many places to get wood-fired pizza in the Twin Cities, but this one feels special. They opened in 2019, less than a year before Covid hit and they made it through 2020, quite a feat… check it out for yourself and help them continue through 2022 and beyond!
