We love theater, and our whole family was at a show at the Minneapolis Children’s Theater on March 11, 2010… the same day the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a pandemic which triggered a lockdown. It was the last live performance we attended for 18 months… until our tickets for “How to Avoid Burnout in 73 Minutes” which we purchased February 8, 2020 were honored for a performance at Open Eye Theater on September 10, 2021! Our 2020-2021 season tickets for Minneapolis Children’s Theater got moved to 2021-2022 and rehearsals just started for “Annie” last week.
But what really made it feel like theater is back was attending a performance of “What the Constitution Means to Me” at the Guthrie Theater this week! Going to the theater now feels like checking in for a flight… patrons must provide proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test for entry, and everyone must wear a mask… a small price to pay for the return of live theater.
