I got a call from clients last week who decided to buy in Palm Springs after spending some time there this winter. Then I saw a couple articles from the LA Times talking about restoring the famed Bob Hope house to architect John Lautner’s original vision. It made me smile to think that maybe when we go back for Modernism Week in a year (or two) this exceptional property will be available to see in person.
In the meantime, it is refreshingly enjoyable to leave behind the bidding wars and get a peek into this fabulous restoration. A student of Frank Lloyd Wright, Lautner’s style was “organic modernist.” His star student Helena Arahuete is trying to honor Lautner, who died in 1994, by recreating her mentor’s vision for this hillside home.
The two fascinating LA Times articles linked below include several 360 degree photos both inside and out… enjoy a modernist getaway!
