Taking A Look At The Amount of Furniture in a Room

On my previous blog discussing Furniture Placement, I talked about how furniture needs to float in a room. In order to do that, many times furniture pieces need to be removed.

When a Home Stager comes into your home there is almost always the suggestion to remove clutter. A key factor to a room looking cluttered isn’t just the little items but also having too much furniture. A room with too much furniture can look weighed down and smaller than it actually is. A buyer doesn’t know what to look at and there is not a key focal point for their eyes to land on.

Too many chairs

Many times I see too many chairs or too many large pieces taking up to much room.

One piece or many pieces may need to be removed and placed elsewhere in the home or placed in storage. The buyer needs space to walk around each room and easily see the fireplace, a built-in bookcase or walk to the window to see the landscaping.

Furniture pieces that hold cherished collections such as curio cabinets and hutches are most often recommended to be removed.

Not only does their removal open up the space but they are personal in nature. This curio cabinet in the corner on the left photo was not needed and your eye went to that versus the fireplace.

This hutch and decorative screen on the left made the room feel closed in. Removing them opened up the room and made it feel more spacious.

Letting a buyer see themselves in your home versus personal items that make them feel like they are in your home is so important.
