One of the first things I tell clients when I meet with them for a Home Staging Consultation is “don’t take it personally.” I am there to get your house in top selling condition, to assist in getting it sold quickly and for top dollar. I am there to help you, not attack you in any way.
When you live in your home you can have your furniture anywhere you want, have walls painted any color and have as much ‘stuff’ as you want throughout. When you put your house up for sale it is no longer about you but about the buyer. My job is to know what the buyer wants in your area and at your price point. Then by walking with you through your home, I will make suggestions what to do to get the buyer to fall in love with it.
But please, this does not mean that what you did was wrong, it’s just different. We now want to take you out of the picture and only think of the buyer. Yes I understand it is still your home, yes I know it is going to be inconvenient, but let’s get your house in top condition, get it sold quickly and then you can go back to living as you normally do.
What I want to stress is don’t take this personally!! I will need to stage my own home when I go to sell. We live one way but we sell another. If you feel paralyzed or uncertain what to do, call a certified Home Stager.
