As I was entering the on ramp for I-694 in New Brighton not long ago I noticed the bell tower in the photo above nearby and wondered about the rest of the building attached to it.
The next time I paid closer attention and noticed a portion of the building below, which pushed my ‘mid-century modern’ button.
That set me up for a stop the next time to take a look at this interesting church that appeared to have mid-century modern influences.
When I stopped I was pleased to see that it indeed had a 1957 date, placing it squarely in the mid-century time frame.
Its strong, pointed cantilevered roof overhang both in front and back of the sanctuary made me think of Palm Springs modernism… simplified, but the influence was evident.
As I travel the metro and visit a multitude of houses, I find myself playing “I Spy” with mid-century modern influences often.
