When I got an email from a woman in New York City asking for information about homes and neighborhoods in the Twin Cities I was excited to strike up a conversation. Not only do I love to talk to people about what a wonderful place this is to live, NYC also happens to be of my favorites places.
Then I learned she is involved in children’s literature (as is our daughter-in-law) and thus commenced the most delightful relocation journey as she and her husband (in children’s book publishing) moved here for her dream position as the new Curator of the Children’s Literature Research Collection at the University of Minnesota.
I just got the following from her about their relocation experience, which she graciously said I could share online.
We have bought and sold three homes in this lifetime. Only this experience could be called a pleasure. Someone told me that Sharlene was a “house whisperer”.
“Don’t worry,” I was told. “She will find you the home that you will love.”
And yes, she did. We flew in from NYC (a relocation) with anxiety and expectations to find a place in three days. Sharlene cherry-picked the listings according to our needs and saw past the surface and looked into our hearts.
With seemingly infinite patience, kindness and compassion she found us the perfect home, the perfect neighborhood (and the perfect commute).
