Each season, the designers from Bachman's Floral Gift & Garden transform the former Bachman home at 5936 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis into an Ideas House… by repainting, refurnishing and decorating the house for the season.
The Holiday Ideas House is open 7 days a week through December 16, 2012, ticket charge is $5 for an assigned time and includes a $5 discount on any purchase.
The house is packed with ideas… love the ceiling light below that reminds me of Dale Chihuly art glass chandeliers, this one looks like it was made by cutting plastic glasses containers and striping with markers. (You can see a Chihuly chandelier in the main entrance foyer of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.)
Their displays encourage you to not be afraid to use almost anything that suits your fancy… the tree above had feathers, branches, antlers along with beads and a plethora of other ornaments. They also used feathers, pine cones, antlers as decorative ends of drapery rods.
The bucket of cut firewood put on end in the firebox of the fireplace below is a great idea any time of the year… decorate with battery-operated flickering candles to bring light and warmth.
This wall of framed mirrors over the sofa is also a great idea for any time of year.
The house was built for the Bachman family in the early 1920s on the site of the original business and was the home of family members until 2001.
What began as a vegetable growing business in 1885 was transformed into a flower growing business in the 1920s and into what is now one of the largest traditional flower and nursery operations in the world. You don't have to be in the Twin Cities long to recognize their distinctive purple color… chosen by Albert Bachman himself because no other company wanted to use purple as a company color!
