Yesterday was the kind of day that reminds us why we love Minnesota even in the winter… a fresh dusting of fluffly white snow from the night before, bright sunshine, not too cold or windy. It was a perfect recipe to get out and enjoy the day… and cross country skiiers were out in droves at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis to prove it!
We have hundreds of miles of cross-country ski trails in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, and over 15 of them are found in the Wirth Winter Recreation Area located on the western edge of Minneapolis bordering Golden Valley, just north of Highway 55.
They not only have 25 kilometers of groomed XC ski trails for beginners to advanced skiiers… they also have snowboarding, snowtubing with a lift, and a free sledding hill. The Twin Cities has extensive hiking and biking trail systems throughout the metro, and both the Luce Line Regional Trail of the Three Rivers Park District and the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway around the Minneapolis city lakes pass through Theodore Wirth Park.
