In fact, the average size of homes with at least three bedrooms was down in 2009 for the first time since 1992, and houses with two or more stories peaked in 2006 and has been falling ever since. This follows trends for 55+ plus buyers, who place high importance on smaller, space-efficient homes.
Regardless of age, and whether buying or remodeling, buyers are cost-conscious but with a focus on efficiency and quality rather than simply pinching pennies. They are willing to pay a little more for a payback of higher efficiency or quality.
