News from New York City

My head is spinning this morning with all that I have been experiencing at the Inman Real Estate Connect conference near Times Square in New York City this week. I love this conference, which I have been attending annually for several years, because it's all about what is new in technology as it relates to the real estate industry. It's not a big conference, only about 1,300 this year and seems about double attendance compared to last year, but it's about the brightest and best of what is happening in technology.

The underlying theme of this year's conference has been real time data…and because we now have so much data, about filtering 'too much information' to the individual level…not just objectively but subjectively…fascinating stuff! It was fun hearing some things presented that I have been thinking about for years…you can look for some new things to be appearing in 'my stuff' as I pick and choose and implement!

We live in a time when technology is enabling us to do things we could only dream about in the past…and is changing at an exponential level. What an exciting time to be alive!

New York City is one of my favorite places, and I plan to spend more time the next few days enjoying what it has to offer. Yesterday I squeezed in a visit to the Museum of Arts & Design, a wonderful small museum on Columbus Circle at the southwest corner of Central Park. Their current exhibit of works of art made from cut paper is amazing…or in more elegant terms…REALLY COOL!!!

At the end of the conference day we attended choral evensong at St. Thomas Church on 5th Avenue…with the angelic voices of the choir of men and boys from their choir school. What a grounding contrast to the fast-paced technology of the rest of the day…this service has been going on in much the same form for over a hundred years!
