Sunday’s Site – Luce Line Trail, Plymouth

Whenever I start working with a homebuyer we talk what they want to have around their new home…location, setting, what's nearby, etc…identifying their sense of place. This is so important because it's something you can't change. You can change paint color, remodel a kitchen, even make an addition…but you can't change where a property is located.

I find more and more that people are asking about nearby parks and trails. Minnesota has more than 25,000 miles of recreational trails throughout the state, and more paved rail-to-bikeways than any other state. Trails are obviously important to many Minnesotans. Not only are buyers asking about them, it seems I am always seeing people on the trails throughout the metro…not just on evenings and weekends but any time.

When I stopped at the Luce Line Trail mid-morning on a recent weekday there was a steady stream of bikers, walkers and runners passing me by! The Luce Line is a converted railroad line which starts in Plymouth and heads west for about 30 miles.

This state trail connects with a paved regional trail which extends east across Plymouth from Parkers Lake to Medicine Lake, where it connects with other trails into Minneapolis. Along the way it connects with numerous trails that are part of Plymouth's more than 100 miles of trails and 1,200 acres of park land…all of which contributed to Plymouth being chosen as America's best place to live last year!
