First, let’s look at the median age for repeat buyers last year. The National Association of Realtors reported that in 2025 repeat homebuyers reached the highest median age… 62. Add to this, people between the ages of 65 and 74 accounted for 30 percent of all repeat buyers, and individuals 75 years and older made up another 14 %.
With this in mind, it should be no surprise that the desire to be closer to family, friends and relatives was the biggest reason for repeat buyers purchasing a different home.
Among all buyers, the top two factors in choosing a home were the quality of the neighborhood (59%) and convenience to friends and family (47%).
