When the StarTribune published an article about 15 can’t-miss breakfast spots in the Twin Cities I eagerly searched the list, looking for someplace new. Many of our favorites were on the list, but I didn’t know about Churchill Street in Shoreview. When I read that the owner was from North Dakota (my home state), I knew even more that a visit was in order!
As described on their website…
Growing up, Churchill St. owner Carly Gatzlaff and her family had a usual place in their North Dakota town—a restaurant with fantastic food, friendly people and an open, airy atmosphere that was always bustling.
It was a restaurant, but not just a restaurant.… it was a place to meet up with someone new, hang out with old friends or run into a neighbor—a reliable, much-loved community gathering place.
Churchill Street opened in 2021 but Shoreview isn’t where we live and Churchill Street is tucked back a bit. (I understand it used to be a hardware store?) I had never heard of it before! When we walked in, it was obviously the kind of gathering place the owner described… and one that had a following.

You waited to be seated first… then went up to the counter to place and pay for your order… which was delivered to your table. The menu is varied, the food delicious, and you can even stop and pick up something in the corner market which features items from their providers.
Churchill Street will be on my list of great stopping places when I am in the area… and even worth a special trip!
