5 Organizing Tips For Your Space From Our Home Stagers

It’s true that home stagers are excellent at making homes look neat, styled and functional but did you know that they have a secret hidden talent? They are also organizing pros! Our team at Rooms With Style is full of ways to better organize the home, which ultimately leads to beautiful, decluttered spaces that potential home buyers can imagine themselves living in and loving themselves! As you know, our team doesn’t gate-keep! Here are five organizing tips that you can use to freshen up your home.

Tip 1: Organize One Room at a Time

This tip may seem obvious, but its so important to remember, so that you don’t bite off more than you can chew and end up with a bunch of half-organized spaces around your home that don’t get completed. Organizing can feel overwhelming in the beginning, but once you complete refreshing a space, your feelings of accomplishment will motivate you to tackle the next item on your list. We also suggest picking a physically smaller space first, like a bathroom or entryway versus the giant basement storage room so you can cross that first space off of your list faster.

Tip 2: Use Beautiful Baskets

As home stagers, we love using baskets in the home. They are functional and beautiful and have so many uses. They can be used if you have an abundance of items in your space. We like to use them in entryways for shoes, outerwear, and hats. They are handy in kid’s play rooms for toys. We use them in living rooms for throw blankets and yoga mats. They are great in the pantry to organize dry goods and in the bathroom for towels. Baskets can also be used to house larger houseplants.

Tip 3: Declutter Living Spaces

Take time to declutter your living spaces around your home. So often little piles accumulate in the “busy” high traffic areas in your home. Maybe a stack of papers in the kitchen, or a pile of books that need to get put away in the living room. We often overlook these areas because we see them every day. Identify items that are always left out and find a hidden home for them. Make an effort to keep your kitchen counters, dining room table and living room clean and clear of clutter.

Tip 4: Donate, Pack Away or Put Out Seasonally

Consider packing away collectibles in your home, or try rotating them seasonally. Donate consumable items like magazines and newspapers. Donate toys no longer in use, and try rotating the toys that still get played with seasonally as well. Take a look in your closet, and donate items that you no longer wear. Rotate clothing based on season within your closet if you have the space.

Tip 5: Pare Down Items By Color

Sometimes organizing is actually easier than it seems… you just have to look at it in another way. For instance, try considering color and aesthetics. You can display items on a shelf based on color, which will help you narrow down which items to keep up on the shelf and which to store away. As stagers, we use this trick all the time- picking a specific color palette for whole rooms or on shelving. Picking only white, black and wood accents for a shelf or tabletop will streamline the look and help you achieve cohesiveness in your space.
