Make Your Home Cozy For Fall

Fall is such a wonderful time of year in the Midwest. The cool, crisp morning air brings a respite from the heat of summer, yet we can still depend on the bright afternoon sun to warm our cheeks. Autumn makes us focus on the inside of our homes, as we prepare for relaxed evenings by the fireplace and festive gatherings with friends and family. Our team at Rooms With Style is excited to share our favorite, easy ways to “create cozy” in your home for fall.

Bring the fall beauty of the outside in! Gather seasonal, fresh or dried stems such as pampas grass, hydrangeas, cattails or sunflowers to decorate your home. You may have options in your own backyard, such as native grasses or florals. If not, check with neighbors and friends or local greenhouses and floral shops. Use mums or other seasonal florals to decorate planters by your exterior doors.

Rearrange your furniture for fall or create a cozy corner for reading and relaxing. If you are lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home, position your furniture so that it faces this feature. To create a cozy little nook, look for a spot near a window that gets bright morning light or warm afternoon sun. Then place a chair or loveseat near it. Don’t forget to drape a throw blanket over your seating, and add pillows and a candle for an extra cozy retreat.

Add textured textiles and cozy layers to warm up your home. A few plush, layered hand towels in the bathroom, or a knit throw draped at the foot of the bed will add instant warmth to your home. Layering with textured fabrics works in any room of your home, and it is a really easy way to style your spaces for the cold months.

Add soft, glowing light to your home. This might mean switching your lampshades for darker colored, or more textured ones that mute the light. Choose soft white bulbs over cool bulbs to add extra warmth. Add candle light to cozy up your coffee table. Decorate with tapers to add extra warmth to your dining table.
