After visiting the ‘tree houses’ on Lexington in St. Paul over the weekend it got me thinking about the unique houses built into the hills around Berkeley, California… and led me to jazz legend David Brubeck’s famous ‘tree house’ at 6630 Heartwood Drive in Oakland, CA designed by Beverley D. Thorne in 1954. Ed Sullivan even filmed an episode with the quartet from the treehouse where ‘Take Five’ was composed. It happens to be for sale for $3,000,000 if you are looking for a modernist home in the San Francisco area. Even if you aren’t in the market to buy, don’t miss the beautiful video tour of the house and its extraordinary setting!
This house floating on steel beams made me think of the house floating on steel beams over Congdon Creek in Duluth… it is also for sale… at a much more affordable price… 3328 E Superior Street.
