“It’s the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary.”
– Paulo Coelho
NOTE: I spend my Wednesdays Unplugged from appointments. It’s my day to stay home, enjoy cooking and welcome our kids and grandkids for dinner in the evening. We end our meal with quotes from the Norwegian ‘Quote Cup’ passed on to me from my grandmother. I share a quote and a recipe here each week, along with an update and photos of what has been going on in our lives. I love trying new recipes…and love getting recipes you would like to share!

We have been talking about experiencing a meal at Travail since they opened in 2010. It finally happened last weekend, when we went with our son and daughter-in-law and celebrated our combined anniversaries of 22 and 52 years… it was amazing!
RECIPE OF THE WEEK
After elegant, foodie meals last weekend I was ready for something simple this week. We had pancakes and bacon wrapped smokies… these smokies from allrecipes.com were simple and amazing.

BACON WRAPPED SMOKIES
- 1 pound bacon, cut into thirds
- 14-ounce package beef cocktail weiners
- Toothpicks
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, or to taste
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil.
Wrap each cocktail wiener with a piece of bacon; secure with a toothpick and place on the prepared baking sheet.
Evenly sprinkle brown sugar over the tops of the bacon-wrapped wieners.
Bake in the preheated oven until bacon is crisp and sugar is bubbly, about 40 minutes.
Serve immediately. (Also good cold)
