When this relocation family contacted me to help them find a home in the Twin Cities we started looking in earnest in November 2020. We tried to find an existing home, but it became evident after about 30 showings that low inventory combined with their specific wants and needs meant their best option was to do a custom build… but with what builder? We visited many model homes and the builder that stood out from the rest for both quality workmanship and thoughtful design was Thorson Homes. We met with them and as they explained their process it was confirmed that my buyers wanted to move forward with them. A great lot that had been on hold for many months was released that morning… they grabbed it and signed a contract in December of 2020.
Everyone was aiming for completion in time for the fall school season 2021. Who knew at that time that delays in the supply chain would mean that the house wouldn’t be ready until December 2021!! Perhaps the fact that the earnest money check they sent by registered mail in December 2020 didn’t show up until close to the end of 2021 was a sign!!
The photos above were taken about a year apart at about the same spot… on their vacant lot in 2020… and inside their beautiful new home in 2021!
Throughout the year every time I talked to my buyers they were frustrated by the delays, but at the same time were very happy with the Thorsons… they were very responsive and doing the best they could. When they finally closed and were moving into their new home they had nothing but good things to say about Thorson Homes and sent me their comments below which they said I could share.
“Our experience with Thorson Homes was amazing and we would definitely build with them again. In fact our experience was so great, I’m not sure anyone else could measure up. Their customer service is top notch, their communication is fantastic and all costs were listed up front. They are honest and fair, and there were no surprises along the way. The craftsmanship is very high quality, and it truly was pleasure working with them. While the pandemic created some challenges, we worked through them and are extremely satisfied with the end result. This company is more than just a business, they become part of your family.” – Peter and Jamie
This may look like a typical new build, but it is the details in this 5BR/4BA/3GAR home that sets it apart. I visited right after closing when they were moving in, and the first thing that struck me was the spaciousness created by the 10 foot ceilings and the abundance of light from the expansive windows throughout the house, including a two-story window in the stairway to the upper level that is far from standard. The finished walkout lower level also has high ceilings and the kitchen ‘pantry’ is really a fabulous prep kitchen, with a counter where you can leave your various electric appliances plugged in and ready to use. The cozy three-season porch has its own gas fireplace to extend its useful time as well as enhance its coziness. And the pièce de résistance is the fabulous master closet walking through to the laundry on the upper level. The closet is truly another room, complete with windows and a center island… really a dressing room with custom cabinetry with a place for everything from boots to jewelry.
“We really appreciate your guidance and wisdom through the process, and above all your recommendation to build with the Thorsons!”
We love working with buyers in all corners of the metro, and love helping relocation buyers find the right home and neighborhood for them! We also feel strongly about giving back to the community to help others become homeowners.
“Thanks for the donation to Habitat for Humanity – that was really cool!”
