As we all know, home offices are now a bigger part of the home then ever. Your home office should include a few things to make it easier for you.
Experts say the most important element is Natural Light. So if you are lucky enough to have a window in your office at home, position your desk in front of or next to a window.
Other important elements are:
No Distractions
It may be best to take items that may distract you out of your office. Don’t have your latest HGTV magazine sitting right there. 🙂 Close your door so whatever is happening at home around you, it doesn’t take you away from work. Interruptions only make your day longer.
No Eye Strain
Uneven light distribution throughout the day as well as glare can add to this eye strain. Add some table lamps or floor lamps to disperse throughout the room so you are not relying just on overhead lighting.Â
Relaxation
Make your space one that you want to be in. Start with your chair, it needs to support you adequately as well as be comfortable.
Add items to your desk or shelves that make you happy. Photos of your last vacation, artwork with your favorite colors. If space allows, add a cozy reading chair that you can move to for taking a few telephone calls.
My advice to you as a designer is to put some thought into your office. Don’t be satisfied with a folding table in a corner. If at all possible, give treat yourself to a nice work space.
