Essential Elements for your Home Office

home office

I am working with a couple relocating here from LA because after a year of working from home each of their employers said they didn’t have to come back to the office and could work remotely. So… they decided to move back to Minneapolis (where she grew up) and are buying a charming tudor in Linden Hills where they each get their own fabulous office space.

Last year I tore out and kept an article from Real Simple talking about the essential elements for any home office. It’s one of the best home office lists I have seen… with so many people making the switch to permanently working from home I think it’s time to share.

Your very own personal charger

You have your own space… you shouldn’t have to share your charger with your significant other or your kids or move it from room to room. Or see it disappear to another room!

A dose of greenery

Whether winter or summer, not only do indoor plants enhance the overall appearance of a space, but they’ve been shown to boost moods, increase creativity, reduce stress, and eliminate air pollutants — making for a healthier, happier you.

Something to make you smile

Incorporate a memento, a piece of art that you love, or even a favorite pen to give your spot some work-life balance. A family photo, a drawing by a cherished child, or a trophy from a hobby can remind you of what really matters.

A rug or runner

Cozy up the space and add aesthetic appeal. If your chair is on wheels, place it away from where you glide if wheels and the rug are not compatible.

Window coverings

Avoid squinting (and subsequent headaches) by installing simple blinds or curtains.

Flexibility

Sometimes the intangible is the most impactful. Be flexible and not afraid to make changes to make your space work the best for you.
