Wonders Ice Cream… Minnesota’s first rolled ice cream parlor

wonders1

While searching for ice cream shops we didn’t know about yet, John discovered Wonders Ice Cream Co, which happens to be a few blocks down the street from our son’s family’s favorite iPho restaurant.

When they opened in 2017, Wonders introduced rolled ice cream to the Twin Cities. It obviously took us a while to discover them while they have expanded to other locations in the state, but they were going strong in their original St. Paul location at 298 University Ave W when we stopped a couple weeks ago.

Wonders offers 42 amazing rolled ice cream desserts, all handmade on the spot. You can see John trying to make a decision from the photos of 24 original signatures. They even offer a vegan coconut base option.

After you place your order you can watch as they roll your ice cream. First they add add their unique flavors to their base and blend it all together, then pour it onto their ice grill to have the ice cream chill at -20 degrees Fahrenheit, then use their hibachi scrapers to mix the ingredients together and spread the ice cream into a thin layer. Your unique flavored ice cream is ready to roll, in just two minutes.

John chose option #17, Birthday Cake… he said it tasted like… birthday cake!
