After last week’s annual Memorial Day drop in real estate activity, new and coming listings popped up again this week undeterred by the local and nationwide unrest.
Showings haven’t fully recovered but they continue, along with multiple offers on properties due to the continued inventory shortage.
If it’s any indication, yesterday was a full real estate day for me… attended an inspection in the morning for buyers who had the winning bid in multiple offers… showed homes to other buyers in the afternoon and will write an offer for them soon, again with multiple offers… while I was on my way to discussing listing a client’s home for sale last evening I was contacted by another client getting ready to start looking for a new home… and all the homes requested for a tour tomorrow by another client had already accepted offers! Yes, the real estate market is alive and well!
The recent unrest surrounding the death of George Floyd has shifted the focus away from COVID-19, at least for the moment. I notice fewer people are wearing masks at showings.
After masses of people huddled together during the protests, the next few weeks should give insight into where we are in the fight against the coronavirus and whether more or less social distancing is required.
These quotes describe some of my takeaways from this surreal week’s news.
- “I just can’t believe what my eyes have seen.” – Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde
- “So let’s do this another way. Let’s stop thinking that our voice don’t matter and vote. Not just for the president, vote for the preliminaries, vote for everybody. Educate yourself and know who you are voting for, and that’s how we’re going to hit ’em. Because there’s a lot of us. And we still gonna do this peacefully.” George Floyd’s brother Terrence
- “Let the real work begin.” – Steve Millikan
