Five home design trends to expect in 2020

Winter is the time when many homeowners think about updating their homes. Wondering what the latest trends are? Here are just a few trends Houzz has predicted for 2020 that we are already seeing.

Kitchens that are anything-but-white

White kitchens seem to have been in style forever, but while 40% of homeowners are still choosing white there is an increase in those searching for alternatives. Look for soft hues, like grays and blues… plus touches of wood in places like open shelving and  countertops… even accent walls.

The return of the formal dining room

Today everyday meals tend to be shared in informal settings, but Houzz expects more homeowners to treat dining rooms as ‘WOW’ spaces next year.

Somewhere to sit in the bathroom

With bathrooms becoming much more spa-like, benches, stools, and window seats are becoming much more common. It can be a handy catch-all by the bath or shower.

Floating vanities

Not only do floating vanities have a clean, minimalist look and feel… they also free up floor space, creating a feeling of more space in a small room.

Laundry rooms that make a statement

No longer strictly utilitarian, homeowners are looking for laundry rooms that are not  boring and just for function.  In fact, in home sales buyers are loving having a laundry room that doesn’t feel like a dungeon and can make laundry time not seem like such a chore.
