Why fall is a great time of year for buyers

fall months supply

I have been thinking about writing this post for about a month, and now I realize why I should have written it about a month ago!  Fall is a great time for buying a home. As you can see in the monthly overview of months supply of homes above, months supply was the highest in September.

  • The months supply of homes for sale in the fall can be even higher than during the spring buying frenzy
  • Fewer buyers are competing for homes
  • You can have more time to think before making an offer
  • Fewer homes sell over list price
  • Prices soften as sellers are eager to sell and move before the snow flies

Think again before you think it would be better to wait for spring because more houses come on the market in the spring. That may be, but there are also more buyer competing for those homes… resulting in lower months supply and more buyer frustration!
